In addition to Pilates offerings on biomechanics, assessment, enhancing your teaching skills and new choreography, we are offering classes in the Franklin Method, GYROKINESIS® and the new CoreAlign system to expand your understanding of the body in movement. Cancellation
Policy

Cancellation of your registration will incur the following fees:
$25.00 if written notice of cancellation is received prior to the early registration deadline

$50.00 for one day registrations and $100.00 for two or three day registrations if written notice of cancellation is received during the regular registration period.

If the cancellation request is made within 72 hours of an event, no refund will be given, however we will give you a 50% credit towards another Pilates on Tour Event.

Changes

Pilates on Tour makes every effort to hold events at the dates, times and locations, and with the instructors and classes specified on our web site and brochures. We do reserve the right to cancel and/or change event dates, times and locations although this happens very rarely. In the very unlikely event that circumstances dictate that we do postpone or cancel an event, you will be refunded your registration fee in full or offered a transfer to another Pilates on Tour event of your choice.

Balanced Body University is not responsible for workshops, or portions of workshops that attendee misses due to illness, emergency, or other event beyond the control of BBU. BBU is not responsible for losses incurred by any attendee for airline fares or other travel arrangements in the event that the workshop must be cancelled or postponed. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

This intensive, experiential workshop reviews the essentials of musculoskeletal anatomy and kinesiology as you build the major muscles used in movement on a specially designed skeleton called a Maniken® model. Understanding the body from the inside out allows you to see movement from a whole new perspective. Practical exercises to understand the function of each muscle and its use in Pilates are included to help you integrate the material. Learn to design a challenging group class including warm-up, core strengthening, upper body and lower body conditioning program, plus great sports-specific and special population applications on the Pilates Springboard. The psoas plays a role in core activation and alignment of the spine, pelvis and legs. Madeline will teach you how to find the psoas, release and recruit it and understand how it affects spinal alignment. Balancing the psoas can improve breathing, release spinal tension including the neck and hip joints and allow for better core engagement. The hip and knee are highly interrelated in terms of alignment and mechanics. Participants will learn to detect and help correct common technique errors involving the hip and knee in standing and in selected classical Pilates repertoire on the Reformer. Kelli Altounian /Andromeda Trumbull, D.C.

Pilates Sports Center
Kelli is the co-founder of Pilates Sports Center and co-director of the PSC Pilates Training Program in Los Angeles, California. Kelli holds a BA (dance emphasis) from the University of Central Oklahoma and performed professionally for over 15 years. Kelli became a Pilates advocate in 1994 while performing as a Radio City Rockette. After sustaining a career ending back injury, Pilates was her choice for physical therapy. In 2000, Kelli and Andromeda Trumbull united their efforts with the aim of updating the approach of Pilates based movement utilizing therapeutic influence. They have since created a Pilates Training Program of International Recognition. The PSC program incorporates manipulation of the equipment to maximize the benefits for the client. PSC’s approach to education and post education continues to grow worldwide.

Andromeda became a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine inspired by her own spinal condition. Her practice specializes in the proper rehabilitation of the lower back. She was introduced to Pilates as a fitness regimen and was so impressed that she mastered its philosophy and became an Certified Instructor to offer Pilates to her patients as a way of treating pain and resolving it more effectively. The profound results of her patients led her to co-found Pilates Sports Center in Los Angeles, California along with Kelli Altounian. Andromeda also co-directs the PSC Pilates Training Program, which aims to provide the highest standard of excellence in Pilates education.

Madeline Black

Madeline Black has distinguished herself as an international leader in Pilates Instruction and movement education. To date she has presented her work at distinguished forums such as: Pilates On Tour (POT), the Pilates Method Alliance, the Body Mind Expo Conference, and Pilates Style. She has also given workshops in Italy, Germany, Japan, Ireland, Spain and through out the US. Madeline draws inspiration from a vast knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, quantum physics, and energy work, which has lead to an innovative, interdisciplinary approach to Pilates, yoga, and Gyrotonic. What sets Madeline's teaching apart is her emphasis on clear instruction. From her lecture demos, to her hands-on work, to her educational and supplemental materials, participants leave her workshops immediately able to integrate her ideas and concepts into sessions with their own clients. Her accessibility, articulateness, commitment to Pilates, and decades of experience, makes her a beloved and sought-after instructor.

Madeline has studied Pilates under many of the modern masters of our time, including Eve Gentry, Romana Kryzanowska, Naja Cori, Jean Claude West and Anna Schmitz. Additionally, she worked and mentored with Marika Molnar at Eastside Sports Medicine Center in New York, studied anatomy and neuromuscular re-education with Irene Dowd, Gyrotonic with Juliu Horvath, orthopedic massage with Tom Hendrickson, Integrative Manual Therapy with Sharon Weilselfish, and Lauren Berry technique with Lynda Caesara. She is also exploring the field of energy work.

A resident of Sonoma, California, Madeline's home studio is Studio M.

Karen Clippinger, MSPE

Karen Clippinger's life long work has focused on the application of scientific principles to enhance alignment and movement performance while reducing injury risk. She is currently a professor at California State University, Long Beach, where she teaches Anatomy, Pilates and other dance science courses. Prior to her university employment, Ms. Clippinger worked as a clinical kinesiologist for 22 years, including at Loma Linda University Medical Center.She has worked with clients ranging from those with severe limitations to elite athletes. Ms. Clippinger has given over 350 presentations internationally and throughout the United States to instructors, educators and medical professionals. She recently completed her long anticipated Dance Anatomy and Kinesiology textbook.

Kathy Corey

West Coast Pilates
Kathy Corey is a Master Teacher who began her career with the Pilates Technique in 1979. She has been the leading expert in the Pilates community for 30 years. She is the Director of Kathy Corey Pilates, an Advisory Board Member for Inner IDEA and an Advisory Board Member for Pilates Style Magazine. The Kathy Corey Pilates Certification Program is taught at locations across the United States and her continuing education programs are taught in twelve countries. Corey is on faculty with the University of Alcalá, Spain, the first University to incorporate Pilates into a Master of Science degree program. In 2004, she designed the innovative CORE Band™ which is also used in studios around the world. Corey is PMA Pilates Gold Certified and she has been selected by IDEA as one of ten people in the world “Who Inspire the World to Fitness,” the fitness industry’s highest form of recognition.

Dallas Everleth /Naomi Leiserson

Center Strength - Balanced Body University
Dallas has been teaching Pilates since 1999 and currently owns Center Strength Pilates Studio, a Pilates and rehabilitation center in Berkeley, CA. Dallas has a particular interest in the movement science behind Pilates and has studied with Marie-Jose Blom-Lawrence and Nora St John. Dallas is a Balanced Body University faculty member and has been teaching Anatomy in Clay nationally for the last 3 years. She studied Anatomy in Clay with founder Jon Zahourek in 2003 and continues to develop anatomy workshops of special interest to movement educators.

Naomi Leiserson, Co-director taught Pilates-based rehabilitation and conditioning at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital's Center for Sports Medicine for 7 years before opening Turning Point Studios in January 2000.

She began her training with Nora St. John and has continued with Michele Larsson and Jean Claude-West. She is certified through Core Dynamics in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Naomi comes to this work with a strong background in modern dance and ballet and currently dances salsa-cubana, Argentine tango and swing. Naomi is certified Level I Gyrotonic® teacher and a certified Hendrickson Method Practitioner. She has also studied the Alexander Technique, tai qi and yoga and is currently completing her second year of the Franklin Methode™ teacher training program.

Jonathan Hoffman, BPT Grad Dip Manip Ther (Australia)

Jonathan Hoffman, PT graduated as a physical therapist in 1987 at Tel Aviv University, Israel and as an orthopedic manual therapist in 1997 at Curtin University, Perth, Australia.

During his career he has worked as a Musculoskeletal PT in Israel, Hawaii and Ireland. He has served as the head PT for several European professional basket ball teams, the Israeli Basketball and Tennis national teams and for the Association of Tennis Professionals.

For the last five years Jonathan has being developing a theoretical movement model and exercises for the CoreAlign Unit. This process has directed him to the field of foundation training for healthy people.

Since 2000, Jonathan has been conducting post graduate courses internationally on mobilization and manipulation techniques, Norwegian exercise therapy and methods he developed.

Currently Jonathan is running his clinic, exercise studio and training center in Herzelia Pituach, Israel, by the Mediterranean Sea.

Joy Karley

Gotham City Pilates - Balanced Body University
Joy Karley, MA holds a Master’s degree in Biomechanics and Athletic Training from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Modern Dance from Kent State University.

Joy is an AFAA and IFTA certified Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer, and has over 15 years experience as a fitness instructor, writer, and presenter throughout the US and internationally.

Joy has trained in both contemporary and classical Pilates styles, and has presented as a Master Trainer for The Pilates Coach as well as Balanced Body University. She has developed programming and training curriculum for major club chains and for Jazzercise, an international fitness franchising company.

Her background also includes extensive training in classical ballet, jazz, tap, Latin, and theater dance. She studied at the School of Cleveland Ballet and has performed with companies in Ohio, California, Washington DC, NJ and NYC.

Joy teaches Pilates, dance, and fitness at studios, corporate sites, and clubs throughout NYC and NJ including Broadway Dance Center, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, and New York Sports Clubs.

Tom McCook

Center of Balance - Balanced Body University
Tom McCook, founder and director of Center of Balance, is a nationally-recognized fitness and movement specialist. Beginning his full-time career in personal training in 1984, Tom designs programs for health and life performance for working professionals, people rehabilitating from injuries, and world class athletes, including Olympic Gold Medal swimmers Natalie Coughlin, Jenny Thompson and Misty Hyman.

Through years of continuous study and his strong commitment to a daily meditation and physical practice, Tom has developed a deep personal understanding of what it means to be balanced, strong, flexible and to have a functional, intelligent body. His teaching approach integrates a range of training disciplines that broaden his effectiveness in designing programs for optimal health. In 2003, Tom produced "Combining Pilates & Yoga for Balance," an exercise video that brings together the benefits of Pilates and Yoga.

Tom was certified in Pilates in 1995 and has taught teacher certification programs for PhysicalMind Institute for all of Northern California. He currently is a Faculty member of Balanced Body University and teaches BBU's Pilates teacher certification programs. He has been teaching Yoga since 1996.

In addition to personal fitness training, Yoga and Pilates, Tom is also a practitioner of Meridian/Resistance stretching, Body Code, the Franklin Method, Shiatsu, Myofacial Release, and Focus counseling.

Tom is certified in Personal Fitness Training through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). In 1998, he completed a teacher training in Meridian / Resistance Stretching at the Meridian Stretching Center in Boston, MA. In 2003, Tom became certified in BodyCode, an innovative system of strengthening, stretching and rehabilitation using three-dimensional movements and specially-designed props. Center of Balance is one of the first studios in the United States to integrate the BodyCode System into its teaching. In 2005, Tom graduated from the first Franklin Method teacher training in the US in experiential anatomy and imagery, and completed the Level 2 teacher certification in 2007.

Tom was certified in 1989 in Shiatsu, a form of body therapy recognized in Japan as a medical treatment. He became an Associate of the Lomi School in Somatic Education with Richard Strozzi Heckler in 1991. From 1991 to 1995, Tom underwent a four-year apprenticeship in movement re-education, structural body work and Craniosacral Therapy. He received national certification in Therapeutic Massage and Body Therapy in 1993. He completed intensive training in Myofascial Release (connective tissue therapy) from 1996 to 1999 with John Barnes, PT.

From 2000 to 2002, Tom underwent an intensive Focus Counseling training with Dennis Stevenson, designed to help individuals create momentum and freedom in life by developing clarity of purpose and self-trust. This Life Coaching work has greatly enhanced Tom's work with clients and increased his effectiveness in helping others become more successful in their lives.

In addition to the work Tom does at Center of Balance, he also conducts retreats nationally and abroad.

Nancy Myers is the Co-owner and CEO of EHS Pilates, Inc. in San Francisco, CA. She is a Certified Senior Pilates Trainer with special focus on Gait Therapy. Nancy is also a faculty member of EHS Pilates Institute, Balanced Body University, MBT Trainer/Educator, and Director of EHS Pilates Institute's International Teacher Training Program and Retreats.

History of Pilates Experience:
Nancy was introduced to Pilates at St. Francis Dance Medicine Center by Elizabeth Larkam in 1989 after injuring both knees from years of teaching dance and running. In 2000, she certified with Ellie Herman Studios in San Francisco. Nancy has extensive knowledge in anatomy and kinesiology. She has dedicated her Pilates career to an emphasis on posture and gait analysis and how it applies to the Pilates work. Nancy has experience teaching all types of fitness populations including dancers, professional athletes, pre and post natal, senior citizens, and clients with injuries and special issues. Nancy is also a certified personal trainer and group exercise director. She has a BS in International Business and is currently working on her masters in Holistic Nutrition. Doreen Puglisi

Pink Ribbon Program
Doreen Puglisi is the founder and program director for The Pink Ribbon Program. As an exercise physiologist, Doreen is dedicated to quality Pilates instruction as well as design and implementation of specialty programs for clients with specific medical limitation. While working with patients who were breast cancer survivors, Doreen saw a need to design a specific post-operative program for these survivors. Hence, The Pink Ribbon Program was created. This need became even more apparent to Doreen when she, herself, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a total mastectomy. After her surgery no formal physical therapy was prescribed. Doreen was able to use her Pink Ribbon Program to retain the range of motion as well as strength in her affected arm. This personal experience has helped Doreen to truly understand and reshape The Pink Ribbon Program and the need to reach all breast cancer survivors. Doreen’s credentials include a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, BA from Seton Hall University, and a Fitness Leader Certification. She is also the Chairperson of the Health Education and Exercise Science Department at County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ.

Lolita San Miguel

Pilates y Mas
Ms. San Miguel is one of Puerto Rico’s leading cultural figures with a distinguished career in dance as a ballerina, educator, choreographer and artistic director. Born in New York City of Puerto Rican parents, Ms. San Miguel performed with Robert Joffrey and Benjamin Harkarvy and for ten years was a soloist with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. Leaving the stage in 1968, Ms. San Miguel taught at leading dance companies in New York. In 1977 she moved to Puerto Rico and founded Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico’s finest classical ballet company. Ms. San Miguel has used the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning since 1958, and was trained and certified by both Carola Trier and Joseph Pilates. She is one of four “Distinguished Elders” of the Pilates Method Alliance and member of the Advisory Board of Pilates Style magazine.

Nora St John, MS

Balanced Body University
Nora St. John has been teaching Pilates since 1989. She works with clients of all kinds from injured office workers to Olympic athletes. Her training in Pilates began with 10 years at St. Francis Memorial Hospital's Dancemedicine division where she worked primarily with clients with sports related orthopedic injuries. She continues her training with Pilates master teachers Eve Gentry, Michele Larsson, Carola Trier, Alan Herdman and Romana Kryzanowska. Nora was a professional modern dancer for 10 years before she began teaching Pilates. She also holds a Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a certified massage therapist and is on the faculty of San Jose State University. Nora co-founded Body Mind Spirit and is the Education Program Director for Balanced Body University, the largest provider of Pilates instructor training in the world.

Barbara Wintroub

Retrofit Pilates - Balanced Body University
Barbara Wintroub, degreed in Kinesiology, certified in Pilates, Gyrotonic and as a Medical Exercise Specialist has over 40 years in the fitness industry. Barbara is the owner and educational director of Retrofit Pilates Rx. She is a faculty member of Balanced Body University, ACE and UCLA Extension in the Personal Training Department. She also taught fitness, Senior Fitness and Pilates Mat for Beverly Hills Extension. Barbara was the P.E. Department head at Marymount High School and she was recently asked to be a member of the Visioning Board of the International Council on Active Aging. As the original developer of the first Jump Board DVD, Barbara just brought out her second more advanced DVD. Her book “Fighting Gravity” should be out 2010. She is a competing athlete having finished two Ironman competitions, she is one of 40 women worldwide to have run a marathon on all seven continents and presently she is Nationally ranked in three racquet sports.
