Program Overview
I regard it as a privilege to have spent almost my entire adult life (the past 30 years) as a guide and teacher to Pilates professionals, exploring with them every aspect of Pilates. From the most fundamental movements to the most advanced levels, always searching for depth and greater understanding. My life experience, and life long study of the art and science of human movement has inevitably influenced this path. This is the essence of BASI Pilates, and the prism through which I view (and teach) the mentorship program.
The program will challenge you to both deepen and widen your understanding of Pilates, from the minutiae of a single exercise to the vastness of the overall system. You will learn some of the most challenging exercises in the Pilates repertoire, several of which are seldom seen. At the same time, you will learn the intricate connections between each of these advanced exercises and the more fundamental ones that precede them - the building blocks towards the highest levels of the work.
The program will incorporate the BASI Pilates Block System, which is the core of the BASI Pilates teaching methodology. The Block System is a scientific and in-depth method for categorizing each Pilates exercise. It provides a structure for building and organizing effective sessions and for the efficient administration of a studio. We will study how to teach the exercises and understand them down to their finest detail: from the setup of the exercises, to the settings, possible cues and, very importantly, precautions.
You will be introduced to the revolutionary AVALONŽ System, a line of contemporary Pilates apparatus that significantly expands the range of the repertoire. You will also learn to navigate within Pilates Interactive™ educational software that will inevitably enhance your study and your teaching.
This is a rigorous program and I expect you to embark on it with an open mind and a joyful heart. I anticipate that for most of you (and me) it will be a profound learning and transformational experience, during which you will gain insight into my personal journey in Pilates and my philosophy of movement. Each of you will experience my teaching first hand, and be expected to practice and integrate within yourselves both the approach and the choreography of the movements.
All participants in the program must have a minimum of five years of Pilates teaching experience plus a certificate of successful completion of a reputable Pilates teacher training course. Participants must also have a sound grasp of human anatomy and exercise physiology. Previous study experience with myself, however brief, and an understanding of my approach, style and technique would be a distinct advantage.
